Straight Leg Raise Test (SLR) or Lasegue test for Sciatic nerve pain (Sciatica) | Special test for sciatica
Special Test for L4, S5 S1 S2 S3,
- SLR TEST
- SOG TEST
In this article I’m talk to you about what are the most
common Nauru dynamics tests about therapists perform and this is called the SLR
which is called the straight leg raise test named after a guy called Charles
Lasegue known as the SOG test.
And is named in 1864 basically it is used for irritation of nerve roots as in sciatic type pain between the levels of l4 and s1 normally when I lift a leg we can ascertain the range of motion most range of motion for hip flexion should be around 80 90 degrees if I was to slowly lift a patient's leg and she was to feel increased symptoms are you back a leg car foot lower back and that would be a positive sign and is normally between 30 degrees and 70 degrees if it's after 70 degrees this is probably a tightness of the hamstring and she has pain within 30 degrees that might be potentially an acute log back and it could be related to a tumor so just be careful on that one most of the time the SLR positive is between 30 and 70 degrees now so the symptoms come on what I normally do is back off let's say she feels something here okay maybe a lower back or leg.
L4, S5 S1 S2 S3,
I'm going to slowly dorsiflexion for ankle because this is
stretching the tibia component of a sciatic nerve which comes from l4 5s 1
& 2 and a bit of 3 and it comes under to the median lateral plantar nerve
view so by stretching the tibial component might increase the symptoms I can
also get my patient be careful now slowly bring the chin to the chest like.
So this would be like a new road test yeah because we're
sciatic nerve is completely been stressed so where the nerve is passing if you
like through this space if we are stretching from the neck down obviously part
of the spinal cord and it increases the symptoms then we know it's a neural
pathology we can also if she if a patient's se has pain anterior Shin front 2
foot dorsal foot then it might be the peroneal component so you might find this
might bring on symptoms but if you were to just ease off and then you invert and
plantar flex and it brings on symptoms to the dorsal foot then you might find
that's the peroneal component of the static nerve so this would be basically
the SLR or the SOGs test for neuropathology between the levels of l4 and s1 I hope
you enjoyed the article
