 Skeletal System of Human 

Human skeletal system consists of numerus bones and few cartilages . OR 

The human skeleton is the internal framework of the human body , It consists of bones and connective tissue, including cartilage, tendons and ligaments.

Its also called the musculoskeletal system. 

Skeletal System of Human 

Human skeleton is consists of 206 bones .

Human skeleton is divided into two parts Axial skeletal and Appendicular skeletal. 

Main parts of human skeleton     

1. Axial skeletal
2. Appendicular skeletal 

1. Axial skeletal : 80 Bones 

Axial skeletal is consists of 80 bones.

Axial skeletal is divided into following parts. 

Parts of Axial Skeletal 

1. Skull bones
2. Vertebral Colum bones 
3. Sternum bone
4. Ribs bones

 Skull : 29 bones 

Skull is divided into three (3) parts 

1. Cranial Bones
2. Facial Bones
3. Ear Ossicles Bones

Cranial Bones : 8 

• Occipital = 1
• Temporal = 2
• Parietal = 2 
• Sphenoid =1
• Ethmoid = 1 
• Frontal =1

So the total bones of cranial is 8bones. 

Facial Bones : 14

The total number of facial bones is 14 .

• Maxilla = 2 
• Palatine = 2 
• Nasal = 2 
• Zygomatic = 2 
• Inferior Nasal Concha = 2
• Lacrimal = 2
• Mandible = 1
• Vomer = 1

So the total number of facial bones is 14 bones. 

Ear Ossicles Bones = 6 

Each Ear ossicles have three bones .

1. Malleus = 1 
2. Incus = 1 
3. Stapes = 1

3+3= 6 so total is 6 .  

Hyoid bone 1

Hyoid bone have one in the human body.

Vertebral Colum is divided into five parts . 

1. Cervical = 7 
2. Thoracic = 12 
3. Lumber =5 
4. Sacral = 1 (5)
5. Coccygeal 1(4) 

Sternum 1

Sternum have one bone in the body. 

Ribs 24

Ribs are divided into thee parts. 

1. True Ribs = 7 pairs 
2. False Ribs = 8th 9th 10th pairs 
3. Floating Ribs = 11th 12th pairs 

So the total ribs is 24 bones.
