How to Check Kidney Function

How to know if our kidneys are healthy we are born we grow up and then turn old similarly our kidneys also pass through different stages of development from birth till death each day counts for our kidneys health yes our kidneys also age and so it is our responsibility to check the health of our kidneys at least once a year now the question is how can we do that overall the kidneys health can be assessed by knowing the GFR otherwise known as glomerular filtration rate this test gives us an idea about the health of one's kidney normal GFR ranges between 90 milliliters per minute to 120 milliliters per minute for a rough estimation of the GFR we simply need the blood creatinine value and body weight from this data GFR can be calculated by mdrd or CG formula based on GFR one can assess the health of one's kidney hence it is the GFR not the creatinine that helps us to detect the health of the Kidney.

What are the tests every healthy adult above 30 years of age should do kidney disease has no symptoms at early stage symptom starts when 70% of the kidneys function is compromised early screening is the only way to detect kidney disease you must do a serum creatinine find GFR and check hemoglobin blood sugar profile blood pressure urine albumin creatinine ratio to check urinary protein and an ultrasound of kidney.

Sign and Causes of Kidney Failure

Kidney failure has a lot of signs and you don't always know that it's related to kidney failure so nausea and vomiting muscle cramping weakness fatigue changes in mental status decreased urination all of these can be signs of kidney failure and you never really know until checking the patient's labs and seeing how their kidneys are actually functioning there are scores of causes of kidney failure many of which are genetic and patients have no control over two of the major causes in the United States though are diabetes and hypertension high blood pressure one of the best things to do to prevent kidney failure is healthy diet exercise and generally taking care of yourself.
