CHEMOTHERAPY

When you look at different types of treatments for cancer, as far as systemic treatments-- meaning treatments that can kind of travel throughout the body to address if there's any cells that may have left that initial region-- you think of chemotherapies that we utilize.

We can utilize Chemotherapies

The reason why you can utilize chemotherapy is because since it affects cells as they're growing, cancer cells are growing much more rapidly than normal cells.

And so because of that, we use that to our advantage.

Because of the growth rate of the tumor itself, it will be more affected by chemotherapy.

The different chemotherapies will target cells at different places within the cell cycle or growth, but they're very non-specific.

So they're not specific to that cancer,

The chemotherapies really can affect all the cells of the body.

And in essence, that's why you end up with side effects from chemotherapies, because of the fact that not only are those cancer cells affected by the treatment, but also the normal cells are also being affected.
